Land Art

Today’s family learning task is to create some outdoor land art. This activity is all about creating art work by discovering and playing with natural resources such as leaves, twigs and stones. Enjoy creating your own beautiful designs whilst you explore the natural world around you. Visit https://artfulparent.com/richard-shilling-on-land-art-for-kids/ for some further information and ideas.

All that you will need is your imagination and an interesting outdoor space to explore such as the garden, park, woods or a beach. You may also wish to take a camera with you to photograph your finished art work, but you do not have to.

Once you have chosen your location, have a look for some different natural materials to use. Pebbles, shells, driftwood, leaves, pine cones, flowers and sticks are all excellent to work with. Find a clear space to work in and let your imagination do the rest! There are no rules land art, you can build or arrnage your materials into whatever you wish.

Check out the amazing work of British artist Andy Goldsworthy for some further inspiration. You can watch this short video clip https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zh4wmp3 to see him in action!
