This orienteering game will encourage lots of teamwork and map reading skills. For this activity you will need paper or card and a selection of household objects or toys.
1. First, you must create a simple key, like the one shown above. This example above uses gym equipment, but you could use whatever you have to hand, e.g. paper, toys, books, kitchen utensils or pieces of clothing. Place all the objects in a pile or basket together.
2. Next, sketch out some funny faces, shapes or pictures using your key. Number each item so that the players know which order to place the items. Create lots of different maps to swap over.
3. Each team chooses a map card. On the signal, they check to see what the first object is and race to collect it and place it down according to the map. They then check again and go back to collect the second object. (Players may only collect one object at a time!)
4. Once all objects have been collected and placed, they can compare the map to their finished picture to see if it matches. The aim of this game is to be the first team to have correctly followed their map key to create a matching picture.
